ReddiNet's mobile interface provides access to important communication, reporting, and emergency coordination functions from a mobile device.
Whether you need to review hospital status, respond to an assessment, report available beds, or coordinate an incident, the mobile interface provides workflows designed for use on smaller screens.
This article introduces the mobile features demonstrated in ReddiNet's training materials and explains where to find instructions for each task.
Getting started: ReddiNet Mobile provides access to selected ReddiNet functions. The available actions may depend on your facility, user permissions, and role within a particular workflow or incident.
1. Understanding the Mobile Interface
ReddiNet's mobile interface presents supported functions in a layout suitable for mobile devices.
Although the screens and navigation controls may differ from the desktop interface, many of the underlying workflows serve the same purpose.
Finding the Information You Need
Within the mobile interface, users can navigate to supported modules and select the information or activity they want to manage.
Depending on the module, information may be organized into tabs, dropdown selections, lists, or individual action buttons.
For example, the mobile MCI interface allows users to switch between different information sections, including patients and ambulances.
Working with Current Information
Many ReddiNet functions involve information that changes throughout the day or during an emergency.
When using the mobile interface, review the selected facility, incident, reporting category, and available status information before making an update.
This is especially important when multiple facilities or active incidents are displayed.
2. Viewing and Updating Facility Status
The mobile Status interface allows users to review facility operating information and perform supported status updates.
Viewing Facility Status
Users can review information such as:
- Facility names and status indicators.
- Reported hospital alert levels and diversions.
- Facility contact and other available details.
- Information about when status updates were last reported.
The mobile interface also allows users to identify preferred facilities for convenient access.
Updating ED Alerts and Diversions
Where authorized, users can update their facility's emergency department alert status and applicable service diversions.
These updates help EMS personnel, dispatchers, and participating facilities understand current operating conditions.
ED Alert Status communicates reported ED activity, while a Diversion identifies restrictions affecting a specific service.
For more information, visit the ReddiNet Status training materials.
3. Sending and Receiving Messages
The mobile Messages interface supports communication with participating facilities and other ReddiNet users.
Creating a Message
Users can compose messages and select recipients using supported options, including:
- Individual participating facilities.
- Facility types.
- Response Groups.
Messages can include attachments when needed.
Response Groups provide a way to select predefined groups of facilities instead of selecting each facility individually.
Reviewing Message Information
The mobile messaging workflow allows users to review message details and available read-status information.
This may include information about when a message was read and which user accessed it.
Using Message Templates
ReddiNet Mobile also supports reusable message templates.
Users can create, edit, and use templates to simplify messages that need to be sent repeatedly.
Templates can reduce repetitive entry, but the message content and recipient selection should still be reviewed before sending.
4. Creating and Responding to Assessments
The mobile Assessment interface supports collecting information from participating facilities and responding to information requests.
Creating an Assessment
Authorized users can create assessments from a mobile device.
The mobile training demonstrates functions such as:
- Creating questions or reusing existing questions.
- Selecting question types.
- Organizing questions and adding instructions.
- Selecting facilities to receive the assessment.
- Sending an assessment immediately or scheduling it for later.
- Reviewing responses and requesting updated information.
Responding to an Assessment
When a facility receives an assessment, users can open it and provide the requested information.
The mobile response workflow supports submitting available answers and returning later to update responses when additional information becomes available.
This is useful when a facility does not have every requested detail immediately available.
Updating Facility Service Levels
Service-level reporting is also managed through the Assessment area of ReddiNet.
Users can review and update their facility's reported service level through the mobile interface.
Service levels communicate broader facility operating conditions and should not be confused with hospital ED alert levels.
Polling Service Levels
Authorized coordinating personnel can request updated service-level information from participating facilities.
The mobile training demonstrates selecting facility types for polling and identifying facilities that have not responded.
Important distinction: ReddiNet's ED Alert Status is managed through Status, while facility Service Levels and Service Level Polls are managed through Assessment. These are separate reporting functions.
5. Reporting Hospital and Long-Term Care Bed Capacity
The mobile Bed Capacity interface allows hospitals and long-term care facilities to report supported bed availability and patient census information.
Hospital Bed Capacity
Hospital users can update information such as:
- HAvBED: Currently available hospital beds.
- Hospital Patient Census: Occupied hospital beds.
- Projected Capacity: Additional 24-hour and 72-hour capacity information where applicable.
The mobile hospital training also demonstrates responding to bed capacity polling requests.
Long-Term Care Bed Capacity
Long-term care facilities have separate reporting workflows for:
- LTC Bed Availability.
- LTC Patient Census.
These workflows allow facilities to report available and occupied beds using the applicable long-term care categories.
The LTC mobile training also demonstrates updating individual values when facility information changes.
Understanding the Difference
Bed availability and patient census are different measurements.
- Bed Availability: Beds currently available for patients.
- Patient Census: Beds currently occupied by patients.
Users should select the correct reporting section before entering updated numbers.
6. Submitting Resource Requests
The mobile Resource Request interface allows participating facilities to submit requests for supplies, equipment, and personnel.
Creating a Request
Users can select an available incident and enter information about the resources their facility needs.
Depending on the request type, this may include:
- Resource category.
- Requested items or personnel.
- Quantity needed.
- Priority and supporting details.
- Applicable requestor and authorization information.
Providing accurate details helps coordinating agencies understand and respond to the facility's request.
Managing Existing Requests
The mobile workflow also supports reviewing existing request information, adding comments, and canceling requests when permitted.
County-level review, request status management, and escalation remain separate responsibilities.
For a broader explanation, see the ReddiNet Resource Request training materials.
7. Coordinating Mass Casualty Incidents
ReddiNet Mobile provides several functions for participating in Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) coordination.
These include activities performed by an agency managing an incident and by hospitals receiving patients.
Initiating an MCI
Authorized users can initiate an MCI through the mobile interface.
The workflow includes identifying the incident, selecting whether it is an Actual incident or Drill, entering incident details and an estimated patient count, and choosing participating facilities.
The mobile interface also supports identifying the incident's location on a map.
Reporting ED Capacity
Hospitals receiving an MCI notification can report the number of patients they are able to accept in three categories:
- Immediate: Patients requiring immediate treatment.
- Delayed: Patients whose treatment can be delayed.
- Minor: Patients with less urgent injuries.
Hospitals can also update their ED capacity after responding to the original notification.
When submitting an update, users select Actual or Drill. The update applies to all active MCIs of the selected type.
Adding and Editing Patients
ReddiNet Mobile allows users to add patient records and update existing patient information during an MCI.
When adding a patient, Disposition and Status are required fields. Additional identification and tracking information can be entered when available.
Users can also mark patient information as not to be disclosed.
Existing patient information can be reviewed and edited through the Patients section.
Sending Ambulances
The agency managing an MCI can send ambulances to selected receiving facilities through the mobile interface.
The dispatch workflow includes selecting a destination and ambulance provider, entering patient counts, and providing available patient tracking information.
One particularly useful mobile feature is triage tag barcode scanning.
On a supported mobile device, users can scan a triage tag with the device's camera instead of manually entering the tag number.
After the ambulance assignment is submitted, the receiving hospital receives a notification.
Receiving Ambulances
Receiving hospitals can view incoming ambulances and mark them as Arrived when they reach the facility.
When triage tag information has been entered, patients associated with an arrived ambulance can appear in the Patients section, where their information can be reviewed and updated.
Roles and permissions: The agency managing an MCI is responsible for sending ambulances through the incident workflow. Receiving hospitals confirm arrivals and update patient information. These activities are not interchangeable.
